7 Day Sipi Trail Mount Elgon Trekking

/ per person
(0 Reviews)

Mount Elgon is an extinct volcano about 250 kilometers east of Kampala on the border between Uganda and Kenya. At 4000 square kilometers, Mt. Elgon has the largest volcanic base in the world. This mountain is not difficult to climb, hikers can also check out the vast caves, waterfalls, cliffs and gorges. There are several trekking trails around Mount Elgon and a full trekking circuit to the peak takes 4-5 days to complete using the Sasa and Sipi trails. There are also one day trails on the mountain from Kapkway Exploration Centre.

7 Day Sipi Trail

This trail is easier and more gradual and it passes through interesting sites like Tutum cave.

Mbale is the home for the Bagisu who are famously known for their ‘Imbalu’ Celebrations. Imbalu is a traditional circumcision ceremony that initiates boys into manhood. During these celebrations, we are most likely to meet teams of family and friends drumming along the way with sharp whistles that follow a rythematic dance known as Kadodi. There is no rest as the atmosphere reaches a fever pitch as the young boys line up to face the knife. It’s an exciting event that happens every two years.
